Anzi Destruction

Anzi DestructionSinger, Guitarist, Songwriter, Producer and probably one of Finland´s multi talented artists Anzi Destruction is known for his own vision of music. With his recent solo album HIGH CLASH MOTHERF**ER released, he once more proved to be a force to be reckoned with. No doubt an artist needed to be interviewed.

Date:
 A.K., 04.09.2012

We asked...
Anzi Destruction is known for breaking musical limits, thus making it hard to categorize the music into a specific genre. So with your own words, how would you music be described best?

Anzi: I think I'm not breaking musical limits radically. I'm just adding flavours depending on a song. For me it's just rock music and expressing different kind of moods. It's sometimes very challenging but rewarding to find a new aspect. I hate to be categorized and I'm glad many people have realized that :)

Where do you get the inspiration from to write the amazing music you create?

It can come from anywhere. Usually people and stories behind them. Or sometimes fictional stories i create. I also get inspiration from sounds and effects where i can find atmosphere for the song.

On your latest release HIGH CLASH MOTHERFUCKER, you invited a mutual Friend – Rory Winston - to Co-write the lyrics. How would you describe the creative process?

I wrote songs with Rory few years ago when Stereo Junks! were still together. It's was pleasure to work with Rory. He understands the feeling and the stories behind the songs. He was perfect partner to work with this album. Songs where suppose to be on Stereo Junks! record, but when the the band split up so i put the songs into my solo album.

When writing the lyrics for your songs, do you try to have a political statement contained within?

Well not too much. I think I'm not familiar enough with politics. You may hear something what pisses you off, but there can be lot more behind it what you might not be aware... Someone will always win and someone will always lose in politics that's sure.

' Your musical career has led you from playing guitars for Plastic Tears, to becoming the lead singer for Stereo Junks! for almost 7 years. What made you decide to start you own Project?

Stereo Junks! broke up early 2010. I was planning to put new band together. My intention was not to make solo album. I was just writing songs in studio and after six months I realized that I have recorded almost the whole album by myself. So it's was natural to put it out as solo.

In the same vein, do you still recall what made you choose the career as a musician in the first place?

I didn't choose the career, career chose me, old clishehah. I have listen and played music since i was something like 6 years old. I grew up listening bands like Rolling Stones, AC/DC then all the metal bands and after that glam/punk period. Sure it fucks up lil kid's mind perfectly so that's why I'm still on the same road!

Are you currently working on new material for another album?

I have been recording/producing next V For Violence album past three months. Album is almost ready. It's gonna be great record! After that I start to compose new songs for my next release. Looking forward!

You produced and recorded HIGH CLASH MOTHERFUCKER in your own Studio. What would you consider as the most beneficial aspect of creating an album within such an “intimate” environment?

Biggest benefits working like that was the privacy and total isolation. It's is very inspiring to the certain point. Negative side is that you are totally alone, sometimes it makes all the musical decisions really hard and there is not very many surprising moments when you know every move you make during the recording process. Challenging but rewarding.

Next to the studio work, artists usually enjoy playing there music live the most. You are known for your extravagant stage shows. How important is the visual aspect of your show to you?

Live shows have always been very important for me. I give everything from myself on stage. I have broken my bones, hurt and bleeded. That's part of the show. People come to see the band, i try to give them something to see. Haven't done much live shows recently but there comes time for gigs pretty soon!

Do you tend to work out the stage effects yourself?

I used to made lights inside the guitar amps. We also had 35 strob lights on the stage but i gave up on those. I have had many ideas during the years considering stage effects, but we play clubs and there're limits. For example I'm not allowed to do fire breathing anymore...

Something I personally consider pretty interesting all the time: If you´d not become a musician, what kind of career would you have chosen?

Maybe something with computers since we had computer and guitar at home when i was kid. I chose guitar. Maybe now i would think twice!

To wrap it up as I usually do with on my interviews. What would you like to say to your fans?

Get up early, stay up late, party but stay healthy, keep you eyes open and keep the things that are important, get rid of what's unnecessary, enjoy life and listen to good music! (?What a philosophy lesson?!)
