Interview: Black Stone Cherry |
 |
| |
| On the 23rd of October, Black Stone Cherry played a gig in the Underground-venue in Cologne. Bass-player Jon Lawhon took a few minutes of his time to answer Mario K.s questions via E-Mail. |
Date:
We asked...
| | How are you and how is the tour so far?
Jon: I couldn't be better. The tour has been great so far. We've made so many new friends and fans. We have nothing to complain about.
This is your first European Tour as a headliner. Where do you see the differences between the European and the American fans?
The European crowd tends to be more of a hardcore group. By that I mean, they can't be fooled. In America, fads take over often. It seems that Europeans don't buy into it as easily.
How did you get the record deal with Roadrunner Records?
Shortly after signing with In De Goot Entertainment (management), we played a couple of showcases. One private for Roadrunner and one for a few other labels. Roadrunner just felt like the one. So far we were right.
When did you start working on the record? Song writing, recording etc.
The first day the band started, June 4th 2001. We recorded it in 30 days in Kentucky winter 2005.
You released BLACK STONE CHERRY in March. Are you happy with the reactions from fans and press?
Absolutely, this is our second time here and things went so well that I can promise we'll be back soon.
Which bands influence Black Stone Cherry?
That question would take years to answer so we'll give you a quick run down. Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, the Allman Bros. etc. The list goes on and on.
On your Homepage, the fans can read about rehearsals for a new record. What can your fans expect and do you have any idea when it will be released?
The same thing they've got and more. We have NO desires to change. Only grow. A lot of bands lose fans and their footing in the Industry because they don't realize the difference. We do. It will be heavy like Sabbath and big time like Aerosmith just like you like us, Hard Rock Southern Style. Look for it spring or early summer at the latest.
What have you planed for the rest of the year and for 2008?
We have a few shows left here in Europe and then right back to writing. We can't wait.
In the past, you supported both Nickelback and Black Label Society, so you played in front of different crowds. Where do you see the differences there?
Ha Ha Ha. Where don't you. They're both great, but two COMPLETELY different walks of life.
Did you make different experiences backstage and on the road with both bands? For example, does Chad Kroeger drink as much beer as Zakk Wylde? ;)
Chad drinks wine and eats twizzlers. Zakk drinks Becks and eats steak. Haha. Again very different. Both bands are great bands and great friends of ours though they are completely different.
Your songs "Lonely Train" and "Shooting Star" have been used by World Wrestling Entertainment as theme songs or for a DVD-commercial. "Lonely Train" has also been used by Ultimate Fighting Championship. Are you fans of Wrestling and/or Mixed Martial Arts?
Yes of course. We all grew up watching WCW and WWF. UFC is on the TV on our bus every time it's on.
What do you think about Chris Jericho's Band Fozzy?
I've heard of them but never heard their stuff. Though I really should.
What is, in your opinion, the best record of all times and why?
There are too many great records to choose from so we'll pick our own. Black Stone Cherry - self titled.
Do you have any last words or greetings for our readers?
Thank you all for your support and we can't wait to come back and see you again.
Thank you!
