... and the Undead Quartet
The Swedish death metaler published 2008 with GRIM TALES their third album and completed a European tour with Unleashed and Krisiun. Whether they were content with the year 2008 we could inquire with an interview with Johan Lindstrand. |
Date:
We asked...
| | In 2008 you published a new Album and you are touring extensively across Europe. Beyond that you were nominated for the Swedish metal awards. What's your conclusion for 2008?
Johan: 2008 was a pretty good year for us and we ended it with a really cool tour with Unleashed and Krisiun. The year was also the beginning of a new line-up (Matthias Bolander replaces Pekka Kiviaho at the rhythm guitar note of the editorship) as well as a new partnership with Massacre records but all things has become very positive for us.
Could we see the band in 2009 at German festivals?
I really hope so. There are a couple of small ones booked later on this year but since a week back we are working with a new booking agency that hopefully can arrange a lot of cool stuff for this band.
Which bands are your favorites to go on tour in future?
Well, if you mean to tour with us I really want to tour with Morbid Angel and Slayer and generally these are the bands I would like to see even if we don't play with them.
Which bands are your personal favorites?
Metallica, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Kiss and Ac/dc but also other stuff like Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash.
In 2008 you've been a long time on tour. As far as I know you're not married, but you all have girl-friends. How can a relationship endure such a long separation?
Well, we are not that often on tour but when we are itīs usually for a maximum of 3-4 weeks at a time and a good relationship is strong enough to survive 4 weeks. And if itīs not then there's no point in having a girlfriend.
Do you have besides One Man Army any other jobs?
Sure, this music doesn't create millionaires. :-)
Did you or your family have noticed something of the economic crisis?
No, not really but maybe it will come to me. Time will tell.
Who in your band is responsible for songwriting and the lyrics?
I'm writing all the lyrics and like 50% of the music and Mikael (Lagerblad, guitarist note of the editorship) is writing the other 50% but hopefully our new guitar player Mattias Bolander will contribute with some songs on the next album.
Are there differences between the Swedish and German Metal scene?
Well, I think that there are more bands coming from Sweden, hehe. Maybe a bit different sound from Germany but I'm not the best guy to ask the question since I hardly never listen to new stuff.
Are there any other certain goals, you would like to reach with the band?
We want to continue building this killing machine so it becomes even bigger and meaner. One other goal is also to get another tour soon.
Is there some more that would like to communicate it the German fans?
Well, the German fans has always treated us good so thank you everyone that reads this. Hopefully we can meet up again soon. Cheers!
Thank you for the interview. I hope we see us soon again in Germany, perhaps in touring?
-Thank you for the interview and good luck with the zine. Maybe we'll come there. :-) Cheers dude! /Johan
