Interview: Winger |
 |
| |
| After Winger came back from their Australia-Tour, Melanie had the chance to ask mastermind Kip Winger some questions via E-Mail about touring, music in general and the bands newest output, LIVE. |
Date:
We asked...
| | Hello, how are you?
Kip Winger: Fine Thanks you, how are you?
Please give us a short summary about your band history containing, in your view, the most important stations.

I've just reviewed your two CD-set LIVE. How would you describe the album in only one word?
Big!
What is the main aim you are trying to achieve with your music?
To do an interview with you!
Who decided which tracks will be listened on LIVE? Did you decide together which songs to play?
Yes, it's basically the live set we did last year. The DVD was recorded at the end of the tour.
Now I'd like to know some short statements to some song from LIVE. You may talk about your feelings or the song's development.
- Loosen up
- Easy come easy go
- Your great Escape
- You are the Saint, I am the Sinner
- Headed for a Heartbreak
- Can't get enough
I don't think in these terms.
These songs are songs I wrote at different times in my life, Each of them represents a specific point in time. As an artist you tend to pull things out of thin air, when it's done you just look at it and say, "well, there it is?". Of course certain songs have more meaning than others, but they're all like your children, equal in the creative outcome.
Which characteristics make a difference between Winger and other bands in your Metal-genre?
I don't consider Winger a "metal band", we are a classic rock band. The main difference is that all of us come from a musicianship background more than an "I want to be a rock star" background. We continue to focus soley on the music and don't get bogged down in the image. In the old days all the rock bands had a hand in the "image" of this kind of rock. And the genre got too staturated. Now some band are out trying to "re-live" the dream. Winger is out because we love to play music together and continue to challenge ourselves.
What kind of music do you prefer at home?
Orchestral music between 1900 and 1950
Ravel, Debussy, Honegger, Delius, etc..etc..
What are your plans for 2008 to 2010? Can we expect a new album or another tour?
Possibly , were are considering a new record now. I'm am mixing a new solo record at the moment and also am finishing a power trio I have called "Blackwood Creek".
Is there any band in the world you would like to perform with or cooperate with on a project?
Not really. I appreciate other band work but don't have a need to "be" them.
What is in your opinion the best album of all times and why?
Music carries with it the gamut of all the human emotions.
It would be ludicrous to try to choose one artists moment in time as the best
description of emotion in ever made. Not to mention, most record don't display the whole of human emotion. Pass on that question.
Are there any last words you would like to leave for our readers?
Thank you for continued support of my/our music. There's much more to come..
See you in your town soon!
Kip Winger
